Carriage Mounted Spreader Bars - This particular kind of mast consists pf three sections as the name implies. The external part is attached securely to the lift vehicle. The next section telescopes inside the mounted exterior part and the interior most section telescopes inside the intermediate section. Both the middle and the inner part elevate and the lift cylinders extend. Once again in this model, the fork carriage rides in the inner part. The 3 stage mast provides a shorter lowered height compared to the 2 stage mast. The common usage of the 3 stage mast is in areas such as doorways where overhead clearances are restricted. This mast is normally outfitted with a center cylinder so as to allow the fork carriage raise several distance before the mast sections begin lengthening.

The 2 Stage Mast includes two sections. The internal part telescopes in the external and elevates when the lift cylinders lengthen. The outer section of this mast model is affixed to the lift truck. The fork carriage is actually positioned inside the internal section. This mast type has a taller lowered height as opposed to an equivalent lift height quad mast or 3 stage mast.
